When Apple first launched the iPad, many Apple critics were skeptical. Why would anyone want a larger iPod Touch? But when it came time for Apple to release the iPad, people wanted one, badly. Some would even argue that the iPad started up the tablet industry, or at least brought it back to life. So, does Apple have any business by releasing an Apple 7 inch tablet? Well, here are my top 5 reasons as to why Apple may release a 7 inch tablet.
When Apple releases a new product, people go crazy and buy them, lots of them. While Apple has a massive amount of cash, they have no problem with adding on to their stockpile. The 7 inch tablet would cater to those in the cheaper tablet market, and bring in more cash for Apple.
4. iPod Touch Replacement
According to MacRumor’s buying guide, the iPod Touch 4th generation was announced Septmeber of 2010, and since then has only recieved a very small upgrade a little less than a year ago, by offering a white model. This could definetely mean that since Apple hasn’t done hardly anything with the iPod Touch, that they are planning on getting rid of it.
Personally, I think this would make sense for Apple, as they might want to have consumers either buy a iPhone, or get the Apple 7 inch tablet instead. I could see Apple do this to push users to get a phone for their pocketable mobile device, and the 7 inch Apple tablet for a cheaper tablet.
3. More People in the iOS “ecosystem”
To me, it seems that Apple really wants to build this ecosystem for people to have all of their devices in harmony. Apple does this through it’s iCloud, however, not everyone can afford to have anything more than just an iPhone. I know plenty of people that can’t really use iCloud because they only have one Apple device! I think that offering multiple “budget” Apple devices, like the Apple 7 inch tablet, will allow for more people to actually be able to utilize iCloud, and have a more enjoyable technological experience.
2. iOS in the Hands of More People
Just like reason number 3, I think that having more Apple devices in the hands of consumers is key, specifically iOS. Apple is putting lots of effort and rescources into iOS, and having more users being able to use it would definetly help them out, and a 7 inch tablet from Apple could do this.
1. Direct Competition with Amazon, Google, etc
With the Google Nexus tablet just coming out, people are starting to really like it, and we already know that there is definetly a 7 inch tablet market, and Google just stepped it up a few notches. The only things that Apple has that compares to such a market would be the iPad and the iPod Touch, the former being too big and the latter too small to really compete. If Apple were to release a 7 inch tablet, they would be in direct competition with Google (Android), Amazon, and other 7 inch tablet makers.
While it makes sense for Apple to release a 7 inch tablet, there are several other reasons why Apple would not do this, so stay tuned for my top 5 reasons why Apple will not make a 7 inch tablet.
